Whole-Home Repiping in Longmont, CO
When the pipes inside your walls are the problem, patching one leak at a time stops making sense. We replace them in days, not weeks, and put your home back together.
Repiping in Longmont: A Fresh Start for Tired Plumbing
Most homeowners do not think about the pipes behind their drywall until the third leak in a year, the shower that goes cold when someone flushes, or the rust-colored water that greets them in the morning. Those are not random problems. They are signs the piping itself has worn out, and no number of patches will change that.
M&M Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electrical has been repiping homes across Longmont and the Front Range since 1996. We replace galvanized steel that has corroded nearly shut, polybutylene that is prone to sudden failure, and copper that our hard, mineral-rich water has riddled with pinhole leaks. Depending on your home and budget, we repipe with PEX, with new copper, or with a combination of the two, and we are honest about which one fits your situation.
A repipe does not have to mean tearing the house apart. Our plumbers plan the new runs to use existing chases and access points, open walls only where necessary, and keep the water on as much as possible while work is underway. Partial repipes are an option too, when only one section of the home, such as the original wing of an addition, is causing trouble.
Every repipe starts with a free in-home estimate and a clear, upfront price. Financing is available, and if the project is tied to a remodel, we coordinate so the walls only get opened once.
Signs Your Home Is Ready for a Repipe
One leak is a repair. A pattern of these is a piping problem.
Recurring Pinhole Leaks
Tiny leaks that keep showing up in different spots are the classic symptom of copper worn thin by hard water and age. Each one is small, but together they signal the whole run is failing.
Galvanized Steel Pipes
Common in Longmont homes built before the 1960s, galvanized pipe rusts from the inside. Flow shrinks year by year, rust flakes into the water and eventually the pipe weeps through corroded walls.
Polybutylene Pipes
The gray plastic pipe installed in many homes from the late 1970s to the mid 1990s became brittle over time and has a history of sudden failure. Most plumbers and insurers consider it a replace-on-sight material.
Low Pressure That Keeps Dropping
If pressure has faded over the years and a new fixture or pressure regulator did not help, mineral and rust buildup inside the pipes is usually narrowing the path. The only real fix is new pipe.
Discolored or Metallic-Tasting Water
Brown, yellow or rusty water from the tap, or a metallic taste that goes away after running the faucet, points to corroding pipe walls shedding into your water supply.
Water Stains and Hidden Damage
Ceiling stains, bubbling paint or a musty smell with no obvious source often mean a slow leak inside a wall. By the time it shows, the damage behind the drywall may be well underway.
PEX vs. Copper for Your Repipe
Both are proven materials. The right choice depends on your home, your water and your budget, and we will explain the tradeoffs before you decide.
PEX
Flexible cross-linked polyethylene tubing that snakes through walls with fewer fittings and fewer openings. The go-to choice for most whole-home repipes today.
- Fewer wall openings and faster installation
- Resists scale and pinhole corrosion from hard water
- Flexes with freeze and thaw better than rigid pipe
- Lower material cost than copper
Copper
The traditional rigid metal pipe with a long track record. Still a strong choice for exposed runs, certain code situations and homeowners who prefer metal.
- Decades of proven service life
- Can be installed where pipe is exposed to sunlight
- Naturally resists bacteria growth
- Higher material and labor cost
The M&M Difference
A repipe is one of the biggest plumbing projects a home will ever see. Here is how we make it painless.
A Plan Before a Single Cut
We map every run, pick access points that minimize drywall damage and schedule the work so you know exactly when water will be off and when it will be back.
Free Estimate & Financing
Your in-home estimate is free and the price is upfront. Financing is available so a failing plumbing system does not have to wait for the next leak.
Licensed, Insured & Inspected
Our plumbers are licensed and insured, we pull the required permits and the finished work is inspected. You get documentation that matters when you sell the house.
Family-Owned Since 1996
Nearly 30 years of serving Longmont homeowners, backed by a 100% satisfaction guarantee. We treat your home like it belongs to someone we will see at the grocery store, because it does.
Our 4-Step Process
Most whole-home repipes are finished in a few days, with water restored each evening.
Free In-Home Estimate
We inspect the existing piping, discuss PEX versus copper, identify the access points we will need and give you an upfront price for a full or partial repipe.
Prep & Protect
Floors and furniture are covered, access openings are mapped and cut cleanly, and we schedule around your household so disruption is kept to a minimum.
Install the New Piping
New supply lines are run and connected to every fixture, with new shutoff valves installed. We keep water on as much as possible and restore it at the end of each day.
Test, Inspect & Close Up
The new system is pressure-tested, flushed and inspected. Then the access openings are patched so the walls are ready for paint.
Repiping Questions, Answered
How do I know if I need a repipe or just a repair?
A single leak in otherwise sound pipe is a repair. Repiping makes sense when leaks keep recurring in different places, when the pipe material itself is the problem, such as galvanized steel or polybutylene, or when pressure and water quality have declined across the whole house. During a free estimate we inspect the piping and tell you honestly which one fits.
How long does a whole-home repipe take?
It depends on the size of the home and how accessible the piping is, but most single-family homes take a few days from first cut to final inspection. We restore water service at the end of each work day so your family is not without water overnight. Partial repipes often finish in a day.
Will you have to tear up all my walls?
No. We plan the new runs to use existing chases, closets and unfinished areas wherever possible, and PEX in particular can be fished through walls with far fewer openings than rigid pipe. The openings we do make are cut cleanly and patched so they are ready for paint when we leave.
Is PEX safe and does it hold up in Colorado?
Yes. PEX is approved by plumbing codes nationwide and has been used in homes for decades. It handles the hard water common around Longmont without the scale and pinhole corrosion that plague copper, and its flexibility gives it some tolerance for freezing that rigid pipe does not have. We keep it out of direct sunlight, which is its one real weakness.
Why does copper in Longmont get pinhole leaks?
Our water carries a lot of dissolved minerals, and over many years that chemistry slowly eats at the inside of copper pipe, especially at bends and joints where water moves fastest. Once the wall gets thin enough, pinholes open up. A water softener can slow the process in a newer system, but once pinholes start appearing the pipe is usually too far gone.
Can I repipe just part of the house?
Absolutely. If one section of the home, such as an older wing, a basement bathroom or the run feeding a single floor, is causing all the trouble, a partial repipe replaces only that section. It is also a smart add-on during a kitchen or bathroom remodel when the walls are already open.
