AC Tune-Up & Maintenance in Longmont, CO
A thorough spring tune-up catches the small stuff before it becomes a July breakdown. Loyalty Club members get theirs included every year.
Why a Spring AC Tune-Up Pays for Itself in Longmont
Your air conditioner sits idle through a Front Range winter, then gets asked to run hard the moment the first hot week arrives. Dust, cottonwood fluff and hard-water scale build up on the outdoor coil, capacitors weaken, and condensate drains clog. None of it shows up on the thermostat until the system quits on a hot afternoon.
A professional AC tune-up from M&M Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electrical resets all of that. Our NATE-certified technicians clean, test and adjust the system so it cools efficiently, runs quietly and lasts as long as the manufacturer intended. Regular maintenance also keeps most equipment warranties valid, which matters if a major component ever fails.
The easiest way to make sure it happens every year is our Loyalty Club Membership. For as low as $21.95 per month you get a 23-point A/C precision tune-up and cleaning each spring, a 27-point furnace tune-up each fall, discounts on all services and priority scheduling when the heat waves hit and every company in town is booked solid.
Family-owned in Longmont since 1996, we treat maintenance the way we would want it done on our own homes: thorough, honest and without a sales pitch. If we spot something that needs attention, we will show you, explain it and give you upfront pricing so you can decide. If your system is already struggling, start with AC repair instead. If it is near the end of its life, we will talk through replacement options honestly.
Inside the 23-Point A/C Precision Tune-Up and Cleaning
A look at the major areas our technicians check, clean and adjust on every spring visit.
Outdoor Condenser Cleaning & Inspection
The outdoor unit takes the brunt of Longmont's dust, pollen and cottonwood seed. We clean the coil and clear debris so it can shed heat the way it was designed to.
- Clean condenser coil and fins
- Check fan motor and blade
- Inspect pad level and clearance
- Clear debris from the cabinet
Refrigerant & Operating Pressures
Correct refrigerant charge is the difference between a system that cools in minutes and one that runs all afternoon. We measure, compare to specs and flag any sign of a leak.
- Test operating pressures
- Check superheat and subcooling
- Inspect line set insulation
- Look for signs of leaks
Electrical Components
Weak capacitors and pitted contactors are the most common summer failures we see. Catching them in April beats replacing them on a holiday weekend.
- Test capacitors and contactor
- Tighten electrical connections
- Check amp draw on motors
- Inspect disconnect and wiring
Airflow, Filter & Blower
Restricted airflow makes the indoor coil freeze and the compressor struggle. We make sure air is moving the way it should through the whole system.
- Check or replace the air filter
- Inspect blower motor and wheel
- Measure temperature split
- Check ductwork at the air handler
Condensate Drain & Indoor Coil
Hard water and dust turn condensate lines into clog magnets. A clear drain prevents water damage and the musty smells that come with standing water.
- Flush the condensate drain line
- Inspect drain pan and pump
- Check evaporator coil condition
- Treat the line to slow algae growth
Thermostat & Controls
We confirm the thermostat is reading accurately and the system responds the way it should, then walk you through anything you should know before summer.
- Calibrate the thermostat
- Test start-up and shutdown cycle
- Verify safety controls
- Review findings with you

AC Tune-Up Questions from Longmont Homeowners
When is the best time for an AC tune-up in Longmont?
Early to mid spring, before the first stretch of hot weather. The outdoor temperature needs to be warm enough for the technician to run the system and take accurate refrigerant readings, but you want it done before summer demand fills the schedule. Loyalty Club members are scheduled automatically during that ideal window.
How often should my air conditioner be serviced?
Once a year is the industry standard, and most manufacturers require annual professional maintenance to keep the warranty in force. Front Range conditions, including dust, cottonwood season and hard water, make that yearly cleaning more important here than in milder climates.
What does the Loyalty Club include?
For as low as $21.95 per month, membership includes a 23-point A/C precision tune-up and cleaning each spring and a 27-point furnace precision tune-up and cleaning each fall, plus discounts on all of our services and priority scheduling. Deep cleaning services such as a blower pull and clean or indoor coil cleaning are quoted separately.
Can I just change the filter and hose off the outdoor unit myself?
Please do, and keep doing it. A clean filter and a debris-free condenser go a long way. What a homeowner cannot do is test capacitors, measure refrigerant charge, check amp draw or calibrate controls, and those are the items behind most mid-summer failures. Think of your part as the oil change and ours as the full inspection.
Will a tune-up lower my cooling bills?
A dirty coil, a low refrigerant charge or a weak capacitor all force the system to run longer to do the same job. Restoring the system to its design specs brings efficiency back to where it should be. We will not promise a specific percentage because every home is different, but a well-maintained system costs less to run than a neglected one.
Does the tune-up include the furnace too?
The spring visit focuses on the air conditioner. Loyalty Club membership also includes a 27-point furnace precision tune-up each fall, so both halves of your HVAC system get their own seasonal attention. See our furnace maintenance page for what that visit covers.
