Garbage Disposal Repair & Installation in Longmont, CO
A disposal that hums, leaks or just quit takes your kitchen sink down with it. We repair what can be repaired and install a new unit when it cannot, usually in a single visit.
Garbage Disposal Repair in Longmont, Without the Guesswork
A garbage disposal is a small appliance that gets a big workout, and when it fails the whole kitchen slows down. Sometimes the fix is simple: a jammed flywheel, a tripped reset button or a worn splash guard. Other times the motor has burned out, the housing has rusted through or the unit is leaking into the cabinet below, and replacement is the honest answer.
M&M Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electrical has repaired and installed garbage disposals in Longmont kitchens since 1996. Our licensed plumbers diagnose the actual cause before recommending anything. A disposal that drains slowly, for example, may be perfectly healthy while the kitchen drain line behind it is the real problem, and we will tell you that rather than selling you a new unit you do not need. If the drain line is the culprit, our sewer and drain team takes it from there.
When a new disposal is the right call, we carry and install dependable units including InSinkErator models, in a range of horsepower ratings to fit how your household cooks. We also install disposals in sinks that never had one, which means adding the drain connection, mounting hardware and, when needed, coordinating the electrical outlet and switch with our in-house electricians.
Every visit comes with an upfront price, and nights and weekends never cost extra. Let us get your sink back to normal.
Garbage Disposal Problems We See Most
Here is what each symptom usually means, and whether it tends to point toward repair or replacement.
Humming But Not Grinding
Power is reaching the motor but the flywheel cannot turn, usually because something hard is jammed in the chamber. Shut it off right away. Running it in this state can burn out the motor.
Completely Dead
No sound at all usually means the thermal overload tripped, the circuit breaker opened, the switch or outlet failed, or the motor is gone. We check the electrical side before condemning the unit.
Leaking Into the Cabinet
Leaks come from the sink flange, the dishwasher inlet, the drain connection or the body of the disposal itself. The first three are repairable. A leak from the housing means the unit has rusted through and needs replacing.
Grinding Poorly or Tripping the Reset
Dull impellers, a worn motor or an undersized unit struggling with a busy kitchen will leave food behind and trip the reset repeatedly. It is often a sign the disposal is near the end of its life.
Persistent Odor
Trapped food under the splash guard, buildup in the grind chamber or a worn baffle lets smells linger. A deep cleaning and new splash guard often solves it, and we will show you how to keep it fresh.
Replacement & New Installation
When repair is not worth it, or you want a quieter and more powerful unit, we remove the old disposal and install a new one, including InSinkErator models, sized for your household.

- Dishwasher connection and air gap
The M&M Difference
Plumbers and electricians under one roof, which matters more for disposals than most people realize.
Honest Diagnosis
We find out whether the disposal, the drain line or the electrical circuit is the actual problem before recommending anything. A new unit will not fix a clogged kitchen drain.
Plumbing & Electrical in One Visit
First-time installs often need a new outlet or switch. Our in-house electricians handle that side, so you are not scheduling two contractors for one job.
Upfront Pricing
Repair and replacement are both priced before we start, so you can make the call with real numbers in front of you. No surprises on the invoice.

Our 4-Step Process
Most disposal visits are wrapped up in about an hour, repair or replace.
Describe the Symptom
Humming, dead, leaking, draining slowly or smelling bad. A quick description helps us arrive with the right parts or a replacement unit on the truck.
Diagnose & Quote
We check the unit, the reset, the electrical supply and the drain connection, then give you an upfront price for repair and for replacement if that is the better value.
Repair or Install
Jams are cleared and worn parts replaced, or the old unit comes out and a new disposal is mounted, connected to the drain and dishwasher and wired up.
Test & Clean Up
We run water and the disposal through several cycles, check every connection for leaks and leave the cabinet dry and the kitchen clean.
Garbage Disposal Questions
My disposal hums but will not spin. Can I fix it myself?
Sometimes. With the power off, you can try turning the flywheel from underneath with the hex wrench that came with the unit, then press the red reset button on the bottom. Never put your hand in the chamber. If it still hums, the jam is stubborn or the motor bearings have seized, and continuing to try can burn out the motor. That is the point to call us.
Should I repair or replace my garbage disposal?
Jams, a tripped reset, a worn splash guard and leaks at the flange or drain connection are usually worth repairing. A leaking housing, a burned-out motor or a unit that trips the reset constantly generally means replacement is the better value. We price both options so you can decide with real numbers.
My sink drains slowly. Is the disposal the problem?
Not always. A disposal that runs fine but drains slowly usually means the clog is in the drain line downstream, not in the unit. That is a drain clearing job, not a disposal repair, and our sewer and drain team handles it. We check both before recommending anything, because a new disposal will not fix a clogged kitchen line.
What should never go into a garbage disposal?
Grease and cooking oil, which solidify in the drain line. Fibrous foods like celery, corn husks and onion skins that wrap around the impellers. Starchy items like pasta and rice that swell into paste. Coffee grounds and eggshells that settle in the trap. Bones, fruit pits and anything that is not food. Running cold water before, during and after each use helps everything else move through.
Can you add a disposal to a sink that has never had one?
Yes. A first-time install means mounting the disposal to the sink, reworking the drain to connect it, tying in the dishwasher if there is one, and providing power with a switched outlet under the sink. Because we have plumbers and electricians in-house, we handle the whole job in one visit.
How long does a garbage disposal last?
Most disposals give roughly ten years of service, give or take, depending on how heavily they are used and how well they are treated. Hard water can shorten that by corroding internal parts. If your unit is in that age range and acting up, replacing it is often more sensible than repairing it.
