Water Filtration
Installation & Service
Whole-home water filtration, softeners, and treatment systems for clean, safe water throughout your home. Trusted solutions from your local Colorado plumbing experts.
Clean, Safe Water for Your Entire Home
Colorado's water supply is known for its hard mineral content, chlorine treatment, and sediment — all of which can affect the taste, quality, and safety of the water your family uses every day. From scale buildup in your pipes and appliances to dry skin and spotty dishes, untreated water takes a toll on your home and your health.
M&M Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electrical has been helping Longmont and Front Range homeowners solve water quality problems since 1996. We offer whole-home water filtration systems, water softeners, reverse osmosis systems, and customized treatment solutions designed to address the specific contaminants in your water. Every installation starts with a free water quality test so we can recommend the right system for your home.
Common Water Quality Issues
If you're experiencing any of these problems, your home could benefit from a water filtration or treatment system.
Hard Water & Scale Buildup
Colorado's hard water leaves mineral deposits in your pipes, water heater, and appliances, reducing efficiency and shortening their lifespan. A water softener eliminates scale and protects your plumbing investment.
Chlorine Taste & Odor
Municipal water treatment uses chlorine to disinfect, but it leaves an unpleasant taste and smell in your drinking water. A whole-home carbon filtration system removes chlorine for better-tasting water at every tap.
Sediment & Particles
Sand, rust, and sediment in your water can clog fixtures, damage appliances, and make your water look cloudy. Sediment filtration systems trap these particles before they reach your faucets.
Well Water Concerns
Private wells aren't regulated by municipal treatment standards, meaning bacteria, nitrates, iron, and other contaminants may be present. We test and treat well water to ensure it's safe for your family.
Spots on Dishes & Fixtures
White spots and film on glassware, shower doors, and chrome fixtures are a telltale sign of hard water. A water softener eliminates spotting and reduces the need for constant cleaning.
Dry Skin & Hair
Hard water strips moisture from your skin and hair, leaving them dry and irritated. Softened, filtered water is gentler on your body and can make a noticeable difference in how your skin and hair feel.

Your Water Filtration Questions Answered
What's the difference between a whole-home system and a point-of-use filter?
A whole-home (point-of-entry) system treats all the water entering your house, so every tap, shower, and appliance gets filtered water. A point-of-use filter treats water at a single location, like an under-sink reverse osmosis system for drinking water. Many homeowners benefit from combining both — a whole-home system for general filtration and a point-of-use RO system for the purest drinking water.
What's the difference between a water softener and a water filter?
A water softener specifically removes hard minerals like calcium and magnesium that cause scale buildup, spots, and dry skin. A water filter removes a broader range of contaminants including chlorine, sediment, volatile organic compounds, and other impurities that affect taste and safety. Depending on your water test results, you may benefit from one or both systems working together.
How often do water filtration filters need to be replaced?
It depends on the type of system and your water usage. Most whole-home carbon filters need to be replaced every 6 to 12 months, while sediment pre-filters are typically changed every 3 to 6 months. Reverse osmosis membranes last 2 to 3 years, and water softeners need salt replenished regularly but the resin bed can last 10 to 15 years. We'll set you up on a maintenance schedule so you never have to guess.
How is Colorado's water quality, and do I really need a filtration system?
Colorado water is generally safe to drink, but "safe" and "ideal" are two different things. Front Range water is notably hard, meaning it contains high levels of calcium and magnesium that cause scale buildup in your plumbing and appliances. Municipal water also contains chlorine and may have trace levels of other contaminants. A free water quality test from M&M will show you exactly what's in your water so you can make an informed decision.
How much does a water filtration or softener system cost?
The cost depends on the type of system, the size of your home, and the specific water quality issues being addressed. A basic water softener starts at a different price point than a comprehensive whole-home filtration and softener combination. We provide upfront pricing after your free water quality test — no hidden fees and no obligation. Give us a call or schedule your free test to get an honest quote tailored to your home.
